Four days after Uniden's repair warranty expired, my SDS100 died again! As best I can tell, it's the J401 board issue . . . I've got a call in to Uniden's repair shop in Texas to see if they're willing to extend the warranty to re-repair the radio, but I'm guessing that isn't likely to happen.The SDS100 comes with a USB charger. Alternately any USB charger will power and/or charge the SDS100 battery. If you have a smartphone or other USB device charger you can use it if you don’t want to use the charger that came with the radio. In the car you can use any USB port to power/charge the radio.I am new to the Uniden SDS100 and SDS200. I am completely ignorant to the proper use of quick keys and the best strategy for using favorites lists to my advantage.I believe it’s Uniden’s use of a radio case (for the SDS100) used in their marine line of portable radios that’s at issue here. The marine case is touted as being waterproof/resistant so Uniden kept the moisture resistant feature and advertised it as a plus for the SDS100. But the marine portables don’t use SDR.The G5 battery will last MUCH longer, and it’s lower capacity than the SDS100 with big battery. Both fully charged and locked onto one TG, the G5 lasted 20.5 hours, while the SDS lasted 8 hours. G5 screen timeout set to 45 seconds and SDS100 set to 10 seconds. In your post, you stated that you were having a hard time finding the American SDS100 firmware changelog page. Currently, on the SDS100 & SDS200, you can customize to show the filter selection. That works if you are picking a specific choice, such as Normal, Wide Invert, Global, etc. But if you are using Auto, the display only shows "Auto", not which choice it found was the best match. The keys are for the specific radio registered, based on the serial number, and are not usable in any other scanner whether the same, or a differen, model. You are going to need an amplified speaker. The only jack on the SDS100 is the headphone jack which has very limited power so you don't blow your eardrums out. Of course that speaker will also require power. But in either case, connecting an external speaker nullifies that difference. Whether the SDS100 equals the SDS200 in performance will only be borne out by time.
